Very early and large Rose & Ernie Cabat Feelie vase, early 1960’s
Here’s a really nice example of Rose Cabat’s early work, 5″ tall and a little over 4″ wide. It has a great crystalline charcoal slate glaze, with subtle turquoise highlights around the opening. The mark is an R within a C, and also the letter E, which stands for Ernie. I have been told that this marks dates the work to the early 1960’s. There are also some other marks which are probably glaze notations by Ernie. There is no damage to this unique and rare piece of American ceramic history. There is a small spot of kiln glaze miss on one side of the vase (see photo), and some glaze overrun at the foot that was ground flat by Rose (green felt applied). I have included photographs taken both inside and outside… The outdoor photos are more blue than the glaze actually is.
