Tim Hurn Studio Pottery Vase – Large Example. A large example of a studio pottery by Tim Hurn (born 1964 Birmingham). As you can see this is saltglazed vase having three impressed’shells’ on the main body. Tim has impressed his monogram in two places on the piece, both are clear. Not sure when this dates from, Tim studied at Camberwell School of Art & Crafts in 1984. From his website I can convey that after college he went to Japan, taking participating in the International Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname, Japan. He travelled, worked and exhibited in Japan for six months gaining experience in wood firing kilns and absorbing the rich Mingei or folk traditions of Japanese art and craft. Upon return to the UK, Tim secured a position as apprentice to John Leach, Bernard’s eldest grandson, at Mulchelney Pottery on the Somerset levels in 1988. This enabled Tim to build and use the’Anagama’ kiln when he moved to Bettiscombe in Dorset. Tim has continued to use this for the last 20 years. Measurements: sits just under 11.75inches high, 4inches wide at base and just under 3inches wide at the top.
