The vase with a lovely two tone brown to cream blended colorations over a vessel form body with incised snakeskin pattern work design. The base with the incised signature. Chips along the base and a few along the body and neck. Unglazed area surrounding the neck. See all detailed pictures. Older wiring which should be rewired for modern use. Height (vase) – 11 1/2. Height (to socket) – 14 3/8. Width(at base) – 6 3/4. Jean Besnard was one of the most highly regarded ceramicists working in Paris between the wars, particularly in relation to Art Deco. His work is highly original, has wonderful forms and textures, and beautiful glazes.
