Measuring a little under 15 inches in width, it is a substantial size. High fired, volcanic bubbly glaze, a fabulous piece. No damage or restoration. Many natural firing / glaze imperfections, which are inherent to when made. Some of which are firing splits, not cracks, within the glaze. Victor Priem was born in Riga, Latvia. Having joined the German Air Force, he was later captured by the Allies and brought to the UK as a prisoner of war. Selected to act as an interpreter in a prison near Brighton. At the end of the war, he was allowed to stay in the UK as long as he worked as a labourer in agriculture. Following a days labour, he would cycle to the Brighton College of Art, where he was training as an art teacher. It was there that he met his future wife, Veronica. After completing his training, he worked in a secondary school in Yorkshire, occasionally working with staff from the College of Education in Ripon. He later joined their Art Department, where he was chiefly responsible for pottery and sculpture. He had exhibitions at the Manor House in Ilkley, along with other galleries in Yorkshire.
