Eileen Lewenstein (1925 2005) 19cm Modernist Vase, London Studio Pottery 1960s
Eileen Lewenstein (1925 – 2005) 19cm Modernist Vase, London Studio Pottery 1960s, VGC PERFECT. A wonderful example of a modernist stoneware vase by Eileen Lewenstein (1925 – 2005). Hand thrown, this has an exciting form, very Mid Century Modern in style. It has a speckled grey & brown glazing. It has her impressed personal EL mark which was used between 1959 & 1975. From 1963 she was potting at Hampstead, London and I would think this would have been made there, probably during the 1960’s, perhaps early 1970’s. An impressive and pleasing piece. Eileen Lewenstein started potting in 1946 in Southwark, London. Two years later she helped to found the well known Briglin Pottery. Her personal work is very varied, ranging from sculptural forms in stoneware and porcelain to individual decorated thrown pots and bottles in a range of styles. Size – approx 19.3 cm tall, 9.0 cm across at widest, 7.4 cm across at rim, 7.9 cm across near base (7 5/8″ tall, 3 1/2″ across at widest, 2 7/8″ across at rim, 3 1/8″ across near base). Weight of vase – 660 g. I pack parcels very well using recycled materials where possible, both to keep costs down and be more sustainable. Please try to reuse or recycle packaging where you can.
