Ursula Mommens (1908-2010) Studio Pottery Small Cobalt Decorated Mug 8cm #1151
She attended at the Royal College of Art studying for two years under the tutelage of William Staite Murray. Ms Mommens then initially set up a pottery in Kent and then at Chiswick in London. As time passed she spent time at Winchcombe and Wenford Bridge working with Michael Cardew. By the 1950’s she was potting in Sussex eventually by the 1970’s with Chris Lewis. Ms Mommens continued producing pottery throughout her life well into her late 90’s. She passed away in 2010 aged 101 years. The decoration is cobalt painted onto the mug in the form of fish. This mug measures 7 cm in diameter and stands 8 cm high. It has 5 small chips on its rim, no other damage. It has a clear impressed mark for Ursula Mommens (the UD mark for her maiden name Darwin).
